Long-term effectiveness of family-level intervention for U.S.military children, families affected by wartime deployments

Research led by Dr. Patricia Lester (Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior) found that family-level preventive intervention can lead to improved behavioral health outcomes for military families affected by wartime deployment. The deployed parent, home-based parent and their children report results that highlight significant reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms after intervention.

UCLA researchers launched a 35-year project Wednesday that aims to decrease the global economic and health impact of depression by 50 percent by 2050. The Depression Grand Challenge initiative will be the largest UCLA research initiative thus far, with an anticipated budget of $525 million for the first 10 years, according to the statement released.
