A $500,000 gift from Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky will add a laboratory to the La Kretz Field Station located in Malibu. Much of the research conducted there, including that of Sustainable LA faculty member Brad Shaffer, will contribute to the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge.

Both Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, have been honored with 2014 Partner for Change awards by Practice Greenhealth, a nonprofit organization that works with the health care community to increase efficiency and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through the use of best practices and new tools and knowledge.

An interdisciplinary team of professors from UCLA and five other universities concludes definitively that we have to cut down on the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere. Daniela Cusack, an assistant professor of geography and a faculty member of the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge, was the lead author of the study.
