Scientists from UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health led by Julia Heck, an assistant researcher in the school’s epidemiology department and a member of UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, have found a possible link between exposure to traffic-related air pollution and several childhood cancers.

A new energy map of Los Angeles developed by Stephanie Pincetl (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences) lets residents find how much electricity the average customer in their neighborhood uses, see how a neighborhood’s energy use relates to its average income level and track energy use over time.

Bucking the idea that environmentalism hurts economic performance, a new study led by UCLA’s Magali Demas (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and UCLA Anderson School of Management) has found that companies that voluntarily adopt international “green” practices and standards have employees who are 16 percent more productive than the average.
