UCLA Center for World Health turns spotlight on failing health of Earth

The UCLA Center for World Health and the LA5 Rotary Club brought together a panel of experts to talk about how large cities like Los Angeles can help halt the degradation of the Earth’s air, water and land that has altered biodiversity, resulting in the introduction of tropical diseases like dengue fever into the southern United States.

L.A. County gets C+ from UCLA on environmental issues

Under the leadership of Mark Gold (Associate Vice Chancellor for Environment and Sustainability), Felicia Federico (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability) and Stephanie Pincetl (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences) UCLA today issued the first comprehensive environmental report card for Los Angeles County. The county’s overall performance marks it as an unimpressive C+ student. This report card provides critical baseline information for the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge.

A team of seven UCLA environmental science students supervised by Magali Delmas (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and UCLA Anderson School of Management) and Travis Longcore (Institute of the Environment and Sustainability) have created a website that shows how emissions from local factories are impacting air quality in Los Angeles County.
